Bollywood is an industry that gives us a variety of movies to choose from and they generally work in different themes and genres. The industry likes to explore new themes but not all of them are liked by the audiences, ‘Ungli’ is a movie that gives us a glimpse on corruption which has evolved over the years. The movie is about a gang of youngsters that form a team to work against the system of corruption, director Rensil D’Silva made an attempt to give a new twist to turn tables in our system and to give our today’s society a new reason to look forward to.

The movie starts off on a high note showing the daughter and father waiting at the Pension Office and being bullied by the ‘babus’ working in the office. The old man is asking for his legal money and stressing over which resulted to a stroke which is overheard by Maya (Kangna Ranaut), who is works in the same hospital. She informs her friends Abhay (Randeep Hooda), Goti (Neil Bhoopalam) and Kaleem (Angad Bedi) that they got their “first case”.

They would go to any level to teach corruption a lesson which is fruitful to the society but the police were on their toes to catch the group. The cops are not happy about this and the Police Commissioner (Raza Murad) gives the case to an honest police officer Ashok Kale (Sanjay Dutt) to solve this case. But when Kale fails to get hold of the gang, he decided to put Nikhil (Emraan Hashmi) on the job. Nikhil is the son of a late cop and a close friend of Kale, and he is not interested to work as a police but however he agreed to this and played a game to show him to be a part of the Ungli gang.

He started off with the trademark videos of the Ungli gang and the team tracked him down. Eventually he joins them but soon Nikhil realizes that he is doing wrong with the gang and the gang’s approach is right in cleaning up the society. But then Nikhil does what he think is right, at some point the movie was a drag and it was prolonging for no reason but yet it did teach all the viewers a lesson.

The most depressing part is that the movie just had one proper song but that song was worth it ‘Dance Basanti’ which was the whole attraction to the movie. The song is Shraddha Kapoor’s item number and she looks gorgeous in it. From the beat to the lyrics everything is great and it will surely stay in your playlist and will be grooving every dance floor in the parties. The second half of the movie is a stretch with repetitive scenes and subject which would make the viewers yawn.

Yet the director managed to give out his message and make the audiences realize of the fact that is happening around. As far as the performances are concerned, one can’t finger point at any one actor by calling him the captain of the ship. Rather, this is one film, wherein everyone contributes their bit effectively. It is really nice to see the comeback of Sanjay Dutt, who handles every shot and frame effectively. Emraan Hashmi, on the other hand, spares no efforts to match his performance to Sanjay Dutt. However, Randeep Hooda who springs up a pleasant surprise in this film! As always, he exhibits a strong screen presence and is as usual, a delight to watch. Neil Bhoopalam, Angad Bedi, Kangna Ranaut and Neha Dhupia all did justice to their respective roles.

All in all, ‘Ungli’ is a onetime watch and it will definitely give you a lesson that would be useful for your life. ‘Ungli’ is a decent watch and you will definitely enjoy the sizzling ‘Dance Basanti’.
